At every wedding I find myself visiting a guest, and almost every time they pop the question: “How did you get into all of this?”
Well, it all started in middle school! I LOVED using my Moms camera, I wanted to take pictures of everything from my older siblings playing sports to the horses and wild flowers out in the field. Then my parents bought me my very own Cannon Power Shot and I was ready to go! This little thing went everywhere with me. It even got put in my backpack every morning before school. I would shoot in class, in mirrors, at lunch, at recess, riding in the car home with whoever picked me up, you name it. I was that little girl with her camera.
Once I reached Sophomore year of high school I realized I really loved shooting the bugs and wild flowers. We lived on 270 acres in Oklahoma, so I had plenty of room to explore and shoot. After my pictures started getting better it was time for a new camera. This time a Rebel with kit lenses! NOW I was ready for everything! (Or so I thought) I shot everything in the field, cows, bees, wild flowers, butterflies, armadillos, turtles, the ponds. I loved what I did. I could have had the worst day ever at school and I would come home, hop on the four wheeler, go explore and shoot and it made everything better.
In October of 2011 one of my good friends asked me if I would take pictures of her and that’s when things took off. After that photo shoot I shared them on Facebook and then this happened:
And after that happened I just never stopped. I couldn’t be more grateful to the ones who helped me start my business in my little town in Oklahoma. A little encouragement and kindness can go a long way.
Today pulling into our driveway I saw these flowers and it took me back to where it all began. I got out of my car and ran inside and grabbed my camera. I love what I do, I am so grateful for this beautiful world we get to live in and all the love and support I receive from family, friends and clients. Thank you and lets go take some pictures together!!
xoxo, Shelby
