This October for Colbe’s birthday we decided it would be fun to have a little get away! Timing worked out where we didn’t have any photo sessions, weddings, or football scheduled on his birthday weekend. It seemed like fate, so we headed up the mountains to a sweet little town called Greer.
Anybody who has been to Greer in the White Mountains of Arizona, has fallen in love. There’s only a few lodges, cabins, and cute little restaurants. You are surrounded by the full glory of nature. There were more critters than we could count and tons of hikes with creeks, rivers, and lakes to see.
We stayed in the Greer Lodge and we loved it. It was quiet and clean and totally gave us the warm small town feel with their sweet service.
One of our favorite parts of the trip was all the deer and elk running around. We couldn’t go anywhere without seeing them in the trees and medows! They were so beautiful and so fun to try to get photos of. We spent hours sneaking up on them with my 70-200 mm lens. It had us both wishing that we could spend the rest of our days being wildlife photographers out somewhere in the woods.
On one of our many drives down the beautiful backroads it started sprinkling rain. The sun started to peak through the pines and was making the raindrops glow. We obviously had to jump out of the car and take some pictures in it.
Another one of our favorite things are small town restaurants. They are always so much fun. We love shooting weddings in small towns with delicious places to eat. One restraint in Greer that we absolutely loved was the Rendezvous Diner. Colbe had been there before with his dad on fishing trips and it was my first time. We got to sit outside on their front deck and enjoy the crisp mountain air along with our yummy food. Don’t judge my popcorn shrimp and french fries… I tend to eat like a 8 year old. At least I didn’t get chicken strips this time ;)
Once night fell we spent our time on the deck of our cabin, snuggling, sipping our “To Go” Campbells Chicken Noodle Soups, listening to the critters, and taking photos of the stars. If you look closely you can see a few blurs towards the line of trees… those are actually elk!
On our way home we made one last stop for tripod selfies in the Autumn leaves. I’m so grateful to have a friend and husband like Colbe who loves to travel and explore as much as I do. Happy Birthday Handsome, I hope it was the best one yet. I can’t wait to celebrate with you for the rest of time.
